Buying a flatbed

What to know before you buy.

A flatbed trailer is the workhorse of any plant operator's yard. Skids, dumpers, mini-diggers, ride-on mowers and pallet loads - the right flatbed gets it on, gets it strapped and gets it home without drama. We focus on flatbeds with proper load-through ramps, recessed lashing points and chassis rated for the weight you're actually carrying.

What to look for

  • Real recessed lashing points (not bolt-on rings)
  • Full-width ramp option for plant
  • Hardwood or aluminium deck rated to the trailer's MAM
  • Independent torsion or twin-axle leaf suspension to suit the load
  • Brakes and the right plating for hire-fleet work

FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

Can't find your answer here? Ring us. Most calls take five minutes and save the email tennis.

  • How much can a flatbed trailer carry?
Payload depends on the trailer's plated weight (MAM) minus its own kerb weight. A typical 10ft twin-axle flatbed plated at 2,700kg gives roughly 1,800-2,000kg of usable payload. We will check the plate against your real load weight before you buy.
  • Can a flatbed trailer be used as a car transporter?
Yes - a flatbed with the right ramps and lashing points works as a car transporter, particularly for race or project cars. For commercial recovery work, a dedicated recovery body is usually a better fit. Talk to us.
